We are so excited that you are coming to Hawaii! Here's some information to help you out with planning your trip. We would appreciate it if you could e-mail us your arrival and departure date and the hotel of your choice once you have finalized your plans in case we need to get ahold of you! Thanx!

Getting there

The airport that you want to fly to is Honolulu, Oahu (HNL). We have arranged wedding group discounts from American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines (Thank you for this tip, Air Guru Ryan). Use the following information to get 5-15% discounts on air fare! More airlinese may appear in the future, keep checking back!

For Hawaiian Airlines, you will get a 10% discount off the lowest published fares with the following STAR File Reference Number: #WED593 (Wedding Party: Ging Ging Liu and William Fernandez). The discount is valid for travel between 09/17/03-10/08/03. Base flight must be at least $350. Calling from U.S. Mainland: 800-367-5320

For American Airlines, if at least 10 people use this offer, guests will receive a 5% discount off the applicable through/interline discount fares or 10% discount off the applicable Y/J/F/P published fares. An additional 5% discount is offered for tickets purchased 30 days prior to departure. Discounts are valid the September 19-October 03, 2003 for travel into Honolulu, HI. Travel (from all markets) can be on any of the following Oneworld carriers, but AA must be the transoceanic carrier: AA - American Airlines, BA - British Airways, CX - Cathay Pacific, QF - Qantas, AY - Finnair, IB - Iberia, LA - Lan Chili, and EI - Aer Lingus. Call American Airlines at 1-800-433-1790 from anywhere in the United States or Canada and refer to the STARfile authorization number 7193AL (Wedding Party: Ging Ging Liu or William Fernandez). This discount is not valid for fares found on the Internet.

Package Deals: For some of you, package deals may work really well. Package deals include air, hotel, and an optional car rental for your stay. These can sometimes save you a bundle. Unfortunately, the hotels in pacakges deals are mainly in waikiki (see below for pros/cons of Waikiki vs. Kailua/Waimanalo). Try using expedia.com to get pricing.


New! GingnBilly Airport Shuttle!

We will be coordinating an airport shuttle operated by the GingnBilly family and friends network! All you have to do is e-mail Ging Ging your flight arrival and departure times along with where you will be staying, then just call to check-in when you land in Honolulu (phone number to be provided by Ging Ging) or if your flight is delayed, and we will get you there and back! It's THAT easy! Gas money contribution to driver would probably appreciated. (Lei greeting is $10 extra.)

Also, let us know if you would like a TheBus visitors pass! We can arrange to pick one up for you and the GingnBilly Family and Friends Airport Shuttle driver will bring it to the airport for you! (See below for details.)

Accomodations

Most of the wedding stuff will take place in Waimanalo. This is approximately 30 to 45 minutes from Waikiki, where most of the larger hotels are located. Kailua and Kahala (next to Diamond Head) are also two other places which may be closer to Waimanalo (10 and 30 minutes away). This map might help you look for places! Sorry, we did not get group rates anywhere, the rates weren't all that great.

    Recommended Bed & Breakfasts:
    We've always had great experiences with AAA places. So I've called up the triple-A recommended bed and breakfast and Papaya Paradise has a few rooms open:

Getting Around

 After you've arrived and taken the GingnBilly Airport Shuttle to where you need to be, you can either take the bus to places (definitely an option for those staying in Kailua or Waimanalo) or drive around (recommended option for those staying in Waikiki). We've done a little research for you here.

  • Public Transportation
    Because Ging Ging is a transportation engineer and we're kind of environmentalists, we would like to mention that the Oahu bus system is also great. It is a very relaxing way to see different parts of the island too. Please visit Oahu Transit where bus routes to popular activity sites are detailed for you!

    The Bus offers $20 Visitor Passes that allow visitors unlimited rides for four consecutive days. They are available for purchase at the Bus Pass Office and at ABC Stores in Waikiki and Ala Moana. (Thanx, Cordy for looking into this!) If you let Ging know ahead of time, we can pick one up for you and a GingnBilly Family and Friends Airport Shuttle driver can hand it to you when you arrive at the airport!

      Important Routes: Route 57/58 | Route 56 These routes will get you to and from Kailua and Waimanalo to the wedding ceremony and the wedding reception. They will also get you to and from Kailua, Waimanalo, and Waikiki.

  • Car Rentals
    You will most likely need a car to get around the island. Some carpooling can happen, we can help coordinate that, just send us an e-mail. Note: most advertised prices do not include taxes, airport surcharges, and the $3/day Hawaii surcharge.

    • Alamo is offering a Book Now-Save Later rate (Thanx for the hot tip, Angus!) Offer valid for rentals between 8/24 - 10/8. Compact for $129/week, minivans $199/week. Plus discounts on per-day prices, using Rate Code: QV and Associate ID: 299049

    • We have worked out a not-so-special rates with Avis rental company. You can call 800-331-1600 to make a reservation give them reference: AWD - D003737 (Wedding Party: Ging Ging Liu or William Fernandez).

    Please note that we recommend getting Car Insurance: Hawaii is a no-fault state, which means that if you don't have collision damage insurance, you are required to pay for all damages before you leave the state, whether the accident was your fault or not. Your personal car insurance may provide rental-car coverage. Ask your insurer before you leave home. The car rental companies offer optional insurance, which usually costs about $17-$20 a day. If you decide to decline the insurance, it is a good idea to bring your insurance ID card with you. Some credit card companies provide collision damage insurance, you may want to find out if it is available from your company and what the deductibles are before you rent.

Travel Tip

 And finally, a travel tip I got from my cousin Lena, which may be very useful, especially if you are going to the beach a lot, when you might be taking your wallet or cards out of your pocket a lot:

    Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine, do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.
